LABOR DAY RETREAT: Thursday, July 31 to Tuesday, September 5
RETREAT! NO! WAIT! KEEP ON SEWING!
Summer is coming to an end and school time will be starting once again and now is the time to get a head start on our Christmas projects and have a little fun while doing so. You have a chance at winning some goodies with a few games and there will be lots of chatter to get to know each other a little better. And the best part is that you don’t have to leave your sewing room to participate!
There will be a lottery block to be raffled off. The lottery block pattern will be decided on a few weeks before the retreat so you will have time to make it in advance. There is a limit of 6 blocks that you can make and each block counts for a chance at the drawing where winner takes all.
Plus, a peek at a new original Mystery Quilt. Hope you will join us over Labor Day Weekend!
UFO CHALLENGE 2017:
Do you have projects that are hiding in your closet that you don’t know how to finish or haven’t had the time to finish for whatever reason? Do you have items that have been around so long that they have become part of the décor in your room? Do you have UFOs that someone gifted to you and are at a loss on how to finish them? Well, this is the start of a new year, a new chance to finish them once and for all. That means binding and labeling. Let’s take control of our UFOs and get them done instead of being afraid to finish and hide them away for yet another year or two! The first person to finish gets a FQ from my stash!
VIEWER’S CHOICE: You must send a picture of the finished project to me at firstname.lastname@example.org. Remember, this is for all projects and they must be finished with binding and quilting, if applicable. All entries will be entered into Viewer’s Choice and will be voted on by the group and the winning project will be the banner quilt for the following month.
TWISTED MYSTERY QUILT: Are you up for a challenge? Do you have what it takes to complete it? Are you bored with the same patterns and are looking for a change? Then you have come to the right place. Each month I will choose a block to do. You choose your own fabrics as it is not a swap, but a challenge, and you can choose to pass on the block if you wish. It can be appliqué, paper pieced, embroidery or regular piecing or something entirely new. The object is to get ourselves out of our comfort zones and play a little bit and experiment with new techniques. To sign up just post your name below. All I ask is that if you want to play along just post pictures to share with the group.
BUST THE BITS AND PIECES PARTY: This is an easy way to use up those small scraps that have a tendency to breed while we are sleeping. Every so often, I will post some fun, fast and easy links on ways to use up scraps. If you have a link you want to share, please do so. It is open to everyone and is designed to use up those pesky little pieces. This is not a swap but just a challenge to clean out our scraps and help keep them under control. If you find a link that uses up stash and scraps, please share with the group! Sherrill YiDonoy has been kind enough to post tutorials for various projects. Thank you Sherrill!
CRAZY SCRAPPY FABRIC SWAP
DEADLINE TO SIGN UP: October 2017
SWAP ENDS: December 1, 2017
The swap startup date has been pushed back to October and will give everyone more time to decide. We all have scraps that are too small to do anything with and don’t want to throw away. Sew the scraps together so you can make a square out of them. As of now, I’m thinking the number of squares will be determined by the number of participants. The squares will be 5″ X7″. The deadline is set out to December and if you are interested, you will have a head start on making your squares. Please include your name and address when you sign up as these squares take a little bit of time to make and that you will have enough time to finish and send without too much stress. Of course, if you finish early, then go ahead and let Cheryl know so she can keep the swap updated. Any questions, feel free to ask Cheryl Hall at email@example.com with your name and address.
FABRIC SWAP: Do you need to stock up on certain colors or novelties or prints? Then sign up to swap with your friends and see what goodies you receive. Start date to be announced.
BLOCK SWAPS: Fun new blocks to swap with each other. You make a block for each person signed up and receive back from everyone! Start date to be announced.
If you have any ideas or suggestions, please feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org and I am sure we can work something out.
