POOR QUILTER’S SWAP, ROUND 4 2017

SIGN UP ENDS: February 14, 2017
SWAP BEGINS: March 1, 2017
SWAP ENDS: May 31, 2017

You will have a little over 2 months to finish and send out your blocks.

It’s after the holidays and all we have left are strings and scraps left in our cupboards. Oh, what is a poor quilter to do? I know, we can make 8.5 inch String Blocks and share them with our quilting friends. We will be making 3 blocks each. If we have more than 12 players, we may do 2 groups at a time. Limit: One group per player, please.

NOTE: Strings can be any width but no larger than 4 inches. We will be exchanging 3 blocks this time.

SIZE: Blocks must measure 8.5” square. Therefore, begin with a PAPER FOUNDATION measuring 9” square and then trim to 8.5”. You may use any PAPER FOUNDATION you desire – children’s drawing tablet, copy paper, tissue paper, paper made for paper piecing or foundations, old phone book pages. Make sure to reduce your stitch length to 1.5 so that seams don’t pop open or break when papers are ultimately removed.

FABRICS: Please use good quality fabric. Color and/or theme will be voted on when the swap is full.

LEAVE PAPERS IN. DO NOT REMOVER PAPERS!!!! With so many different fabrics and biased edges, leaving paper in provides one more layer of stability for the block until it is attached to something else. Make sure to include your name on each block on the back. You may use address labels, or just write it on the paper. Please DO NOT use Glad Press and Seal on the blocks, it is impossible to pull off without ruining the block.

What is a string block? It is a simple PP block that uses up a lot of scraps.

About cozyquilts

Hello and welcome to my website. My name is Donna. My hubby is retired and I am still working from home. I have twin daughters and am blessed with 4 grandchildren. We are owned by 4 cats that love to supervise and are very nosy. I have been quilting since 1996. In addition to making quilts for my family and friends, I also make charity quilts for Marjoree Mason Center and Valley Children's Hospital. Marjoree Mason Center is a local organization here that helps and supports battered and abused women and children get out of abusive relationships. Every Christmas I make several baby quilts for the women, along with a small stuffed animal. Valley Children's Hospital is a new venture for me that just started this year. Every month or so I drop off a couple of quilts along with a small toy, for the children. I use a lot of bright, fun fabrics to help cheer them up. I do special order quilts but please be advised in advance as I work full-time in addition to quilting, I only do a few during the year. Also, it may take up to 6 months to a year to completely finish a quilt as my sewing time is limited. I only do applique or patchwork and will incorporate machine embroidery into my patterns, when requested. Thank you for visiting and I hope to see you and friends again soon.
