OH, MY STARS BLOCK #9 AUNT DINAH

Hello and Welcome back to Oh, My Stars!

This is the ninth block and is called Aunt Dinah and measures 6.5 inches.  You can find it at quilterscache but it measures 12 inches and uses only 2 colors.  My version uses 4 colors and is very scrappy.  Here is the link as the directions are the same:  http://www.quilterscache.com/A/AuntDinahBlock.html.

I have only cut out the pieces so far and haven’t actually sewn the block together yet, but here are the directions.  I will post a picture of the finished block soon.

Here are the colors that I chose:  As you can see they are very scrappy!

Cutting Instructions:

From Dark 1 color you will need to cut the following:

1.  Four 1.5  inch squares

2.  Two 2 1/8 squares cut into half diagonally to give 4 triangles.

From Light 1 color you will need to cut the following:

1.  Four 1 7/8 squares squares cut into half diagonally to give 8 triangles.

2.  Two 3 1/4 inch squares cut into quarters to give 8 triangles.

3.   One 2.5 inch square.

From Light 2 color you will need to cut the following:    One 3 1/4 inch square cut in into quarters diagonally to give 4 triangles.

From Dark 2 color you will need to cut the following:  One 3 1/4 inch square cut into quarters diagonally to give 4 triangles.

Here is a picture of the block before being sewn:

This is the center of the block:   Make sure that your dark #2 is toward the center.

You will need to make the following units:

You will need 4 Bird in the Air blocks for the corner units and then four 4-X blocks.

This is a closeup of the Bird in the Air blocks.  You need to make sure that the little square is at the very corner of the block.  If you sew the wings onto the square first and then add the triangle, it’s a lot easier to make.  They look just like arrows pointing toward the center.

This is a picture of the block sewn together in segments but not completely put together yet.  This is the point where I kept messing up but as soon as it is done, I will post a picture of the finished block.  Since I had issues with the original block, my colors might be different the next time around.

Thanks for dropping by.  I will have the next block posted on next Saturday, April 27.

About cozyquilts

Hello and welcome to my website. My name is Donna. My hubby is retired and I am still working from home. I have twin daughters and am blessed with 4 grandchildren. We are owned by 4 cats that love to supervise and are very nosy. I have been quilting since 1996. In addition to making quilts for my family and friends, I also make charity quilts for Marjoree Mason Center and Valley Children's Hospital. Marjoree Mason Center is a local organization here that helps and supports battered and abused women and children get out of abusive relationships. Every Christmas I make several baby quilts for the women, along with a small stuffed animal. Valley Children's Hospital is a new venture for me that just started this year. Every month or so I drop off a couple of quilts along with a small toy, for the children. I use a lot of bright, fun fabrics to help cheer them up. I do special order quilts but please be advised in advance as I work full-time in addition to quilting, I only do a few during the year. Also, it may take up to 6 months to a year to completely finish a quilt as my sewing time is limited. I only do applique or patchwork and will incorporate machine embroidery into my patterns, when requested. Thank you for visiting and I hope to see you and friends again soon.
