Hello Everyone and welcome back to Oh, My Stars!
This is the fifth block in the series and is called Windmill. It is a fairly easy block consisting of half square triangles and 2 inch squares. I used two colors for this block, actually two 10 inch squares from my stash. Here are the colors I chose:
Now for the cutting instructions:
From the yellow you will need 8 2.5 inch squares and four 2-3/8 inch squares that will be cut in half diagonally to give you 8 half triangles.
From the print, you will need four 2-3/8 inch squares that will be cut in half diagonally to give you 8 half triangles.
Here is a picture of the block laid out before sewing and a close up of the center piece.
Sew together your half square triangles and then lay out. You will notice that it is a pinwheel in the center, very easy block to do. Just remember that it is all half square triangles with 8 squares thrown in and watch the placement of your pinwheel.
Here is my finished block. I may redo this one as the fabric was a little stretchy and my machine was acting up. Also, it’s a fun block to make and would make a pretty baby quilt!
Oh, here is the link to quilterscache if you want to use their pattern: http://www.quilterscache.com/W/Windmill2Block.html. Their block is a 8 inch block and uses 3 colors. Just remember to adjust as our blocks are all 6.5 inches square.
