BIBLE BLOCK OF THE MONTH

Hello felllow quilters!

Donna C. has given me the go ahead to start a 12 month Block of the Month with you.  I’m so excited about this; I’ve never hosted anything of this sort before, so please bear with me.  I have to round up and work on or purchase a new camera to show you pictures of what I’m doing.  I hope this will make it easier for you to follow along.

Religion and faith are deeply rooted in the lives of women from the earliest Colonial days to now.  Often centuries ago, many people could neither read or write, thus had little need for the libraries we know of today.  Many times the only reading material in a household would be The Holy Bible.  Can you even imagine a life with only one book to read; no television, radio, internet, ipad or any of the other modern technologies that influence our lives today?

The only inspiration/information that many women had available to them were the stories from The Bible and those passed down from generation to generation.  Is it no wonder that in an attempt to beautify their homes and express their creativity, these women used  names from Bible stories and characters; Job’s Tears, Rose of Sharon, Cross, and Crown, and Star of Bethlehem to name only a few to that goal?

Let’s follow that long time traditon and work together for the next 12 months and create our own Bible block quilt.  I hope you have, fun, I know I will!  I’ve long wanted to make a quilt based on The Bible; blocks given Biblical names long ago.  I don’t have yardage requirements since I’ll be pulling the blocks from here and there.  I do know that all blocks used will finish at 12”.  My suggestion and what I am going to do, is gather some fabrics that appeal to me, get a couple of yards or so of each (perhaps more for borders), then give it a go!  Of course you know as well or better than I do that you can put any and all leftover scraps to good use in later quilts.  If you’re not interested in a Bible themed quilt for yourself or loved ones, this would make a great quilt to give/donate to a charity.  So many today could use a “quilty hug” and it might just make a difference in someone’s life.  We never know!

All suggestions given in love will be appreciated and taken into consideration.

About cozyquilts

Hello and welcome to my website. My name is Donna. My hubby is retired and I am still working from home. I have twin daughters and am blessed with 4 grandchildren. We are owned by 4 cats that love to supervise and are very nosy. I have been quilting since 1996. In addition to making quilts for my family and friends, I also make charity quilts for Marjoree Mason Center and Valley Children's Hospital. Marjoree Mason Center is a local organization here that helps and supports battered and abused women and children get out of abusive relationships. Every Christmas I make several baby quilts for the women, along with a small stuffed animal. Valley Children's Hospital is a new venture for me that just started this year. Every month or so I drop off a couple of quilts along with a small toy, for the children. I use a lot of bright, fun fabrics to help cheer them up. I do special order quilts but please be advised in advance as I work full-time in addition to quilting, I only do a few during the year. Also, it may take up to 6 months to a year to completely finish a quilt as my sewing time is limited. I only do applique or patchwork and will incorporate machine embroidery into my patterns, when requested. Thank you for visiting and I hope to see you and friends again soon.
